Abdi Gure
Abdi is a Canadian of Somali origin and a resident of Regina, SK. Abdi has received a bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) from the University of Regina and completed his master’s in public administration at the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy.
Mr. Gure has a background of long-time involvement in the nonprofit sector, dealing with the most vulnerable populations in society both in Canada and abroad. Before his immigration to Canada, he has extensively worked in the humanitarian field both in Kenya and Somalia with various international and local organizations such as ARC, UNHCR, and the Red Crescent, dealing with refugee crisis, poverty and community development, as well as in conflict resolution projects.
Abdi is also a hardworking, dedicated working class family man with extensive work experience in the construction, oil and mining industries both in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Abdi has been a founding board member in various community-based initiatives in the past and continues to support/volunteer with several Regina-based nonprofit organizations.
In 2022 Mr. Gure became a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal for his long contributions to the voluntary/nonprofit services sector. In addition to his family commitment, Abdi is a passionate advocate for human rights, refugee supports, multiculturalism and youth engagement in Saskatchewan and around the Prairies.
